ATOL is a financial protection scheme for holidaymakers travelling on an air inclusive holiday, which is managed by the Civil Aviation Authority. This protects you from losing your money or from being stranded overseas in the very unlikely event that DERTOUR should go out of business. Our Air Travel Organiser's Licence (ATOL) number is ATOL 1839.

When you buy an ATOL protected air inclusive holiday* from us, you will receive a confirmation invoice from us (or via our authorised agent through which you booked) confirming your arrangements and your protection under our ATOL.

* The air inclusive holidays we arrange are ATOL protected providing either the person who pays for the booking is present in the UK when the booking is made or the first leg of any flight or flights we arrange for you commences in the UK. Ljubljana City Breaks

As the Capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana is a city of many faces. Situated just over the river, Ljubljana city breaks couldn't be without a trip to one of the numerous museums and art galleries, such as the Slovenian Museum of Natural History, the National Gallery (Narodna galerija), and the Museum of Modern Art (Moderna galerija), all of which culminate in a diverse and profound cultural experience for tourists and locals alike.

Ljubljanica, the city's river, has its banks awash with people visiting restaurants and relaxing in the trendy water front whilst sipping cocktails and local ales. Ljubljana is a place of diverse architectural styles, namely the Baroque and Vienna Secession styles, which make it an interesting city break for any tourist. The vibrant culture of performing arts is evident in Ljubljana with international theatre, music and art festivals being hosted in the city throughout the year. Music in particular is an important part of life, the European classical music and jazz festivals as well as a summer festival are extremely popular and are set on the buzzing and energetic backdrop of the city.

Ljubljana City Break

Standing tall on the surrounding hillside, Ljubljana Castle is a popular tourist attraction. The castle's defiant walls and towering keep are rich in history and offer a perfect view of the city below. With many events held here each year as well as regular tours, the castle makes a great day out and is a popular destination with visitors on a Ljubljana city break. The Dragon statue located in the Ljubljana basin is in fact the symbol of Ljubljana and provides the city with a charming legend associated with the travels of Jason and the Argonauts.

Slovenska, which cuts across the city centre, boasts big name shops and the Nama department store is a popular shopping boulevard. However, a far more pleasant and relaxed experience can be found in the old town squares of Stari trg, Mestni trg and Gornji trg, where beautiful medieval and baroque buildings house eclectic boutique shops selling everything from jewellery, perfume, shoes and clothes to traditional crafts and designer gear made in studios behind the stores. The right and left banks of the Ljubljanica River are also increasingly home to boutique stores and small art galleries.

BTC City

The largest of its kind in the country, the giant BTC features not only some 450 shops selling everything you could possibly imagine, but also boasts restaurants, bars, a post office, multiplex cinema, indoor go-cart racing, a comedy theatre, billiards, volleyball courts, an enormous water park, conference facilities and its very own business district housing some of the best known local and international companies.

Gostilna As

Regarded by many locals as the city's best restaurant, Gostilna As combines first-rate service with understated luxury and great food with dishes like sea bass laced with fresh truffle.

JB

Long a favourite of visiting businessmen, this classy fine dining retreat tests the credit card; but the food is excellent.

River

A funky new addition to the Ljubljana dining scene located by the river in the old town. Chic décor is backed up by friendly service and a fresh, creative menu that turns its eyes firmly towards the Mediterranean. Truffles in season (autumn and early winter) are a highlight.

Škofja Loka

A thirty minute's drive west of Ljubljana, Škofja Loka boasts a well-preserved old town, where the local authorities have invested in English information plaques and revamped the castle's museum. The most interesting streets are the rectangular 'squares' of Mestni trg, Cankarjev trg and Spodnji trg.

Lake Bled

Lake Bled, a 14,000-year-old alpine lake an hour's drive northwest of Ljubljana, is simply stunning, a glacial lake fringed by pine trees and vaulting peaks all around. It may bustle with tourists for much of the year and there are some unsightly developments dotted around the lake's banks, but on a serene morning when the mists clear and the alpine peaks reflect across the water, it is hard not to be spellbound by Bled.

Ljubljana Castle

Ljubljana Castle looms above the city. It can be reached by a tourist train or a modern funicular, but a better option is to walk up the steep slopes and make the most of the view of the city and surrounding mountains in the distance. From June to September, the castle's history is bought to life by guides who lead visitors through the various halls, chapel and the dungeon. Year round, a hi-tech audiovisual show delves into the history of the city.
