Lübeck's most visited and famous attraction is what first greets visitors as they enter the city, the Holsten Gate, erected in 1464-78. The Gate houses the Holstentor Museum which informs on the local history of Lübeck.

The St Annen Museum is located in the Gothic St Annen monastery and one of the most beautiful museums in Germany. It exhibits medieval religious artwork and the rooms and the gardens themselves are exquisite.
The Buddenbrook House, recently opened, is a tribute to Thomas Mann and his brother. The Museum for Nature and Environment contains interesting animal skeletons and the Burgtor Monastery exhibits Lübeck's coin treasury, art and archaeological pieces.
