The DOM is a part of Hamburg's tradition and dates back to the 14th century, when St Mary's Cathedral (St Marien Dom) offered traders and craftsmen refuge during bad weather. The DOM guarantees adventure, fun, excitement and nostalgia. The name goes back to a group of merchants, craftsmen and jugglers, who, following some disagreements, were granted the right in 1337 to seek shelter in the cathedral "Marien-Dom" whenever the weather was particularly bad. At the end of the 19th century, the fairground showmen and machine operators found their new "home" on Heiligengeistfeld, the venue of today's DOM. The venue is always busy at both the Winter festival and during the Hamburg Summer Beer Festival, when it is recommended to always book in advance.
